A Review of Chipless RFID Measurement Methods, Response Detection Approaches, and Decoding Techniques

Chipless RFID systems can be considered as a special case of passive systems, where the tag contains no power source and electronics. Instead, tag’s information is stored in its structure accessed through electromagnetic (EM) scattering response. However, robust response detection, which primarily function measurement method, equipment, processing method used, still major challenge chipless field. The consequences not properly capturing include, incorrectly assigning an ID or reporting sensing parameter. Due to criticality these challenges, this review seeks provide overview current methods, equipment architectures, methods they relate detection decoding. Since started gaining popularity around 2005, developments area have been focused on three categories: time-domain, frequency-domain, spatial-domain systems.
